
David Karlsson is a free-lance writer and cultural activist based in Göteborg. As a cultural journalist he has contributed to many cultural journals and on regular basis to the Swedish dailies Göteborgs-Posten and Dagens Nyheter. His academic background is in History of science and ideas, and he has put a lot of effort in trying to understand Ernst Blochs “Philosophy of Hope”.
Between 1994 and 1998 he was editor-in-chief of Ord&Bild. He has also been editor at Daidalos, an independent publishing house specializing in philosophy and social theory. Since 2013 he is the owner and publisher at the publishing house Bokförlaget Korpen.
In 1995 David was one of the co-founders of Nätverkstan Kultur, a cultural organization owned by 30 cultural journals, working with cultural projects and education. One of the missions of Nätverkstan is to facilitate the conditions and the practical life for cultural journals. He is also one of the co-founders of Kulturverkstan, an educational programme in critical cultural management, run by Nätverkstan since 1999.
In 2007 David Karlsson was appointed to the Swedish Governments Commission on Cultural Policy, which he left in 2008. In 2010 he published En kulturutredning, a book that became widely read and influential in the Swedish public debate on cultural policy.
Today David Karlsson is working as chairman of Nätverkstan, free lance writer and lecturer and as publisher at Korpen.
