In the Greek language, “Irene” means “Peace”, which is why we call ourself Irene. In our broad understanding of the term peace, we include work for democracy, human rights, social and economic justice and respect for our shared planet. We work for peace by peaceful means through our book publishing, and by organising our Meeting Space and Writers’ Residence.
The Meeting Space and Writers’ Residence is open to groups and individuals working on issues related to peace, nonviolence, civil disobedience, anarchism, constructive resistance, democracy, human rights, economic justice, guerilla gardening, environmental sustainability and all manner of related issues. You don’t need to publish your writing with us in order to visit, but our publications cover the same types of themes.
Your hosts at the Meeting Space and Writers’ Residence are Jørgen Johansen and Professor Majken Jul Sørensen, both of us activist-academics with decades of experience. We believe that people can create a better world without violence, but that this requires knowledge, skills and analysis. We offer our place as a resource to anyone working for peace, justice and environmental sustainability by peaceful means who need a quiet place to write or meet. We have an extensive library with well over ten thousand books which you can read while you are here.
